People decide to adopt a child for many
different reasons. Some couples are either infertile or
carry some type of genetic disease that they would not want
to pass on to their progeny. Other people either do not have
a spouse or have a partner of the same sex—and are not able
to conceive. Still others look to adopt because they desire
to have a child and they want to help an abandoned child. In
many cases, those adopting to help a child will often look
for an adoption agency oversees, often in low income
developing countries.
Unfortunately for those who seek to adopt
the child and for the child him or herself, completing an
overseas adoption is far from easy and inexpensive.
The future parent must first seek out a
reputable adoption agency overseas. The “Adopt a Child”
organization is a good place to start. Often, an adoption
agency overseas, such as Adopt a Child, will display
pictures of each child up for adoption on their web site.
Once the future parent selects the child he or she wishes to
adopt, he must then talk with representatives at the agency.
From this point on, the adoption process
rarely goes smoothly. The adopting parent will have to
contact a lawyer to assemble and complete the proper paper
work for the adoption. In addition, the adopting parent will
have to pay for all of the paper work to be translated into
the native language of the country in which the adoption is
taking place. The adoptive parent may even need to make a
trip out to the adoption agency overseas, as is sometimes a
stipulation for adoption.
If you plan to work with an adoption
agency overseas to make a foreign adoption, brace yourself
for a lot of paperwork and expense; but know in the end that
your efforts can secure a better life and a brighter future
for a young child. |
